Message that question is way too subjective but a sports car in its TRUEST sense would be something as close as possible to a Mclaren F1. Granted you can't have a steering wheel in the center and gold under the hood to dissipate heat in anything REMOTELY affordable to the general public there are certain things that should trickle down. For instance, an independant rear-suspension is a must. That throws out every camaro ever built along with every Mustang except for a few of the newer-body Cobras. It should be a 2-door with a manual transmission at least available as an option. Excellent high-speed stability and good road manners. An engine that is both reliable and can stand sustained high-RPM spirited driving. I think it must very close to if not less than 3000 pounds (which the Z32 is not). Basically the Z32 really does have too much Sh!t on it to make it a sports car and if you ask some of the older 240-280Z fans they'll say the same thing. The Z32 was a departure from the original Zs roots which the new 350Z is trying to get back to. I'm not saying the Z32 was bad or a black sheep, quite the opposite I think that the car they built even with all the extra crap thrown in like HICAS and adjustable shock settings was revolutionary and set the bar from which the Supra and RX-7 were built. But to call the Z a sports car and the Miata not is pretty ignorant. Oh well, I'm sure I won't convince you otherwise, to each his own I guess.
